Gloves / Gauntlets FAQs

Electricians’ gloves / gauntlets are designed for use by qualified personnel working with live electrical equipment. They protect the wearer against electrical shocks up to the corresponding voltage for each class of glove / gauntlets. All gloves are manufactured and tested to the BSI Standard BS EN 60903.

What classes of protection are available?

  • Class 00: Tested voltage 2000V (Working voltage 500V)
  • Class  0: Tested voltage 5000V (Working voltage 1000V)
  • Class  1: Tested voltage 10,000V (Working voltage 7500V)
  • Class  2: Tested voltage 20,000V (Working voltage 17,000V)
  • Class  3: Tested voltage 30,000V (Working voltage 26,500V)

How often should my gloves be re-tested?

  • Class 00 & 0: Regular air leakage test and visual inspection advised (re-test not mandatory)
  • Class 1, 2 & 3: All gloves, including those held in storage, should be electrically re-tested within a maximum period of 6 months from the previous test date.

Re-testing service:

This covers the re-testing, date stamping and provision of test certificate.

Storage:

Gloves  / gauntlets should be stored in a protective PVC container

Maintenance:

After use, replace gloves in their protective bags. If the gloves become dirty, they should be washed in soapy water at a temperature of less than 70 o then carefully dried at less than 65 o  and dusted with purified talc. If stained with paint or tar DO NOT use petrol, paraffin based products or white spirit, instead clean gloves with a light solvent then wash and dry as described.
